With growing pollution levels in our cities, it is only natural for parents to feel worried about their babies. If you too are stressed about the protecting your baby from pollution, read on to find out what you can do.

Babies and children are most affected by pollution as their immune systems are still developing and are not strong enough to fight external attacks from germs, allergens, and pollutants.

When your little one breathes polluted air, it stresses their lungs and blocks bronchial tubes, which may lead to respiratory problems, heart diseases, asthma, wheezing and much more.

Here Are Some Useful Tips To Protect Your Baby From Pollution

  1. Give your baby ample fluids

Keeping the little one hydrated and drinking lot of fluids is very vital since these fluids will work to detox the body and flush out the toxins that accumulate due to pollution. A good amount of fluid intake is recommended for everyone in the family especially for the babies.

2 – Breastfeed

Breastfeeding is one of the simplest and the most effective ways to protect your baby’s health. As long as your baby is breastfed, he/she is getting all the antibodies, nutrients and the natural immunities. Breastfed babies are more immune and fall sick rarely when compared to formula fed babies.

3 – Practice good hygiene

It is always a good practice to maintain hygiene and keep the place indoors and surroundings clean and tidy. Always keep a set of wet wipes handy to use it for your baby. Also use sanitizers for hands whenever you want to hold the little one. Make sure you change your baby’s diaper timely.

4 – Don’t smoke

We all know that smoking is bad for yourself as well as others around you. If you are a mom-to-be then make sure you do not smoke and also indulge yourself in passive smoking. Smoking or staying with a person who smokes is equivalent to breathing polluted air from the world’s most polluted cities.

5- Improve the air in your home

Apart from avoiding to smoke, you can do many other things which will help you to keep the air in your home clean and fresh. You can bring some plants inside your home to refresh the air you breathe. You can use air purifiers and every few days you must ventilate your home for sometime by opening the windows and doors.

6- Take care when cooking

We should always be very careful while we are cooking and the cooking smoke or oils need to be exhausted properly. The kitchen should be planned in such a way that it should have proper ventilation and the children should be kept away when you smell some smoke.

7- Cars are not safe

Many people think that being inside the car is much safer than being in traffic and face pollution directly. But this does not hold good and the fact is that the harmful gases and oils from the exhausts can pass straight through the air filters and accumulate in the car cabins which is 20 times more harmful than staying outside.

8- Eat Right

Always make a point to feed the baby healthy to stay healthy and build a strong immune system. Hence you should include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Also make sure that you exclusively breastfeed your baby at least till six months to pass the antibodies naturally. Eat fruits and vegetables which are high in antioxidants, Vitamin C and Omega fatty acids.

9- Limit outdoors and stay indoors

You should limit yourself going outdoors especially during peak timings of traffic so that you avoid polluted air. Keep your indoors clean and purified with air purifiers and make sure your baby has a safe and protected environment.

All the tips that are mentioned above are the things that you can do now to keep your baby safe and protected from pollution. But in a long run we all need to act positive and make sure that we create a greener and safer environment for our little ones to grow. Hence going green is the best way to contribute for a greener and pollution free environment.
